The learning strands of askit, growit, cookit and filmit are used to deliver a school's curriculum. The hands on learning they provide gives children a sense of purpose and develops an understanding of the world around them.
By integrating engaging, practical and relevant activites into the learning environment, children have access to contexts which enable independent learning and the acquisition of fundamental life skills and knowledge. The Open Futures approach enables teachers to plan learning experiences which raise attainment in literacy, numeracy, science and technology. It allows learners to engage and contribute positively to the classroom, the school and the wider community.

Over 130 schools have successfully implemented the Open Futures programme over the past 11 years. There have been many positive OFSTED reports, linking Open Futures to successful outciomes. Independent assessments have been carried out by Newcastle University, Charities Evaluation Service and the National Education Trust.
Independently evaluated by Newcastle University's Research Centre for Learning and Teaching, which shows, amongst other things:
Tangible outcomes which children can experience, taste and use in partnership with the cookit and strands. Great potential for parental involvement and suitable for the development of extra-curricular clubs. An improvement in motivation and self-esteem through contextual learning.

|Follow-up activities and support||
Support days are designed to provide in school direct support which follows on from the core training module. In school support days may be arranged to assist with lesson planning, modelling lessons with children, lesson observation and planning for curriculum development. Support days may be booked individually, or in blocks, as required.
It is recommended that two support days are taken to help embed the learning from this training session.
The course is accompanied by a comprehensive workbook, with resources and materials to use in school.

The course commences at 10am and finishes at 4pm.
The course is facilitated by two experts; a growit (RHS trained) tutor, and an askit (P4C) specialist.
The format of the day contains practical hands-on sessions in both horticulture and philosophy.
Lunch, refreshments, resources and materials and a comprehensive workbook are included. This course is certified by the CPD Certification Service and certification is provided to participants after successful completion of the course.
