Description Times are going to get harder! That’s the cry we are hearing and we are already starting to see this reflected in our decision making. Schools will need to commence their budget setting activities early in the New Year and will be challenged to set affordable and sustainable budgets in the medium term. This programme will present a process for setting budgets that are entirely focussed on educational outcomes and maintaining a modern, fit for purpose education delivery model in the medium term. A must for every school concerned over how best to "make ends meet".

  • organise their finances in practical building blocks to help inform discussion, challenge and interpretation
  • prepare a plan for developing a base budget for their core education delivery model and other building blocks groups, as a starting point for probing, challenging and discussing future budget allocations
  • use decision-making tools to manage decisions around cost/quality compromises and prioritisation
  • understand the need for a forward projection of the project for 3-5 years to secure affordability and sustainability in the medium term

This course is run by Larraine Cooper. In banking Larraine's career culminated in lending on the international currency markets working with published and management information.  Her professional qualifications include Accountancy (Distinction) and Monetary Economics.  She formed her own consultancy in 1986.

Larraine works with senior and middle management to develop a range of business performance management and costing skills to support the delivery of quality services over a medium-term timeframe.  She has worked with HE institutions, FE colleges, schools and local authorities.  She works with schools through the NAHT financial courses and on a 1:1 consultancy basis, focusing entirely on finance and business aspects of school management serving educational outcomes by resourcing School Development Plan priorities. 

A natural strategic thinker, Larraine has enjoys working at a variety of levels to develop staff and organisations across a range of "business skills" including governors, senior education leaders, education leaders aspiring to management and school business managers.
