Description Using new material trialled in schools, this course addresses the challenge that many schools have - that of genuinely making maths a cross curricular subject. How do we provide opportunities for children to use their maths in other subjects? How can we use other curricular areas to deepen children's mathematical understanding? Can maths help children to better understand the key principles of other subjects? By experiencing activities appropriate to KS1 NC14, delegates will leave the day with plenty of ideas and strategies for successfully making maths cross curricular.

Using new material trialled in schools, this course addresses the challenge that many schools have - that of genuinely making maths a cross curricular subject.

The areas covered are

  • maximising the potential of mathematics in all areas of learning

  • maintaining the focus on problem solving and reasoning

  • capturing evidence to show progress

Evidence underpinning this approach

Materials written for and trialled in schools

How users/participants can evaluate success

Delegates will reflect on the outcome of the day by considering how it is impacting on their own planning - how easy is it to use maths to teach and learn about other curriculum areas? They will be able to judge if this has made a difference to their teaching and their children's learning

Follow-up activities and support

Delegates will be encouraged to try activities and suggested approaches to using maths in other curriculum areas with teachers within their schools and to share experiences more widely
