Details

This three-day inspirational residential course for practicing physics teachers will be based at the headquarters of the British Geological Survey in Keyworth, Nottingham. The course programme will include: talks titled "Crystal structure of the UK", “School seismology around the world” and "Ground penetrating radar studies"; tour of the BGS research laboratories; hands-on workshops on illustrating physics ideas using earth science examples.

Subsidised by the British Geological Survey and co-sponsored by Insitute of Physics and the British Geophysical Association, this is a great value course located in pleasant surroundings. The lecture component of the programme is devised to update participants on innovations in geophysics. "Hands-on" workshops afford teachers opportunities to try new equipment, develop new IT skills, learn new experimental techniques, try out novel investigations and engage with alternative teaching and learning strategies.
