Topic 1: rights and responsibilities
Basic introduction to the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Simple explanation of your basic health & safety rights as an employee, as well as your responsibilities. 

Topic 2: hazards
Definition of a hazard, some common hazards – poor housekeeping, lighting, temperature, toilets, ventilation and spills.

Topic 3: slips, trips and falls
Most common causes of slips, trips and falls, HSE five-step approach to assessing, controlling and managing risks.

Topic 4: manual handling introduction
Definition of manual handling, what physical harm can be caused by poor manual handling.

Topic 5: manual handling law
Management of Health & Safety Work Regulations 1999 and Manual Handling Operations 1992 – what the law says and what you need to do.

Topic 6: manual handling techniques
Step-by-step guide to correct lifting and handling.

Topic 7: working at height
Work at Height Regulations 2005 – your and your employer’s responsibilities, basic do’s and don’ts, risk assessments.
