Description This course will provide participants with an overview of the topics that come up in the D1 modules across all specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and OCR(MEI)) along with a range of effective teaching and learning resources. Participants receive 12 months' access to the MEI online resources for Decision Mathematics and ongoing email support from the presenter. No previous knowledge of D1 is expected. MEI has been awarded the NCETM CPD Standard.
Duration One day followed by four evening sessions in an online classroom so that all topics from the various D1 modules are covered

This one day course is suitable for teachers who have little or no experience of teaching Decision Mathematics and is designed with the following aims in mind:

  • to provide participants with an overview of the topics that come up in the D1 modules across all specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and OCR(MEI))
  • to provide a range of effective teaching and learning ideas and resources.

Participants receive 12 months' access to the MEI online resources for Decision Mathematics and ongoing email support from the presenter.

Timings: 10:00-16:00

On the day:

  • Algorithms
  • Graphs
  • Networks
  • Linear Programming

Follow-up online sessions:

  • Networks: touring algorithms (AQA, OCR D1, Edexcel D1/D2, MEI D2)
  • Critical Path analysis (MEI, Edexcel D1, OCR, AQA D2)
  • Linear Programming: simplex tableau (OCR D1, Edexcel, AQA, MEI D2)
  • Final session dependent on the needs of the group.

Presenter:

Sue de Pomerai is the Deputy Programme Leader of the Further Mathematics Support Programme which is managed by MEI. She has specific responsibility for Professional Development within the FMSP.

Sue has a BA in Mathematics and an MA(Ed) in mathematics education. She is an experienced Head of Mathematics and taught in a variety of schools and colleges before coming to work for MEI in 2005.  Sue is an examiner and has written and contributed to several mathematics textbooks.

One of her specialisms is professional development for Decision Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics and Mechanics.

Susan Whitehouse is an education consultant, working with MEI on the Teaching Advanced Mathematics programme. A graduate from Warwick University, Susan is the former Level 3 Coordinator at Sir George Monoux College.
