Positive Handling / Physical Intervention Training for school staff. This is suitable for staff INSET day training or in twilight sessions. Any number of staff can be catered for, depending on the size of your room. The course is legally compliant and is effective for those handling children of any age, suitable for both primary and secondary ages.

Stated learning outcomes for this course

A typical day’s course is as follows:

  • Appropriate educational and children’s legislation, including the use of reasonable force for head teachers, staff and governing bodies, The Education Act 1996 and The Education and Inspections Act 2006
  • Human Rights legislation, in particular Article 2 regarding the right to life and the implications for public authorities with regards to restraint
  • Reasonable Force, including Common Law and Section 3(1) Criminal Law Act 1967
  • Health and Safety at Work Legislation, duty of employers and employees under Sections 2, 3 & 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Preventing positional asphyxia
  • Introduction and practice of approved ‘low risk’ restraint techniques
  • Demonstration of techniques that should not be used
