Description Our Subject Knowledge Enhancement for Teachers (SKEfT) programme is designed to help qualified, in-service teachers to update or develop their current subject knowledge or to train to teach other specialist subjects. These in-depth, post-ITT SKE courses could help you to boost your teaching career by providing you with the opportunity to formally train to teach an additional high demand shortage subject such as Biology, Chemistry, Computing, French, Geography, German, Maths, Physics or Spanish.

Evidence underpinning this approach

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

Your subject knowledge will be assessed throughout the course and there are compulsory SKEfT checkpoints to ensure that you are engaging with the programme and making good progress. Your pathway tutor will provide you with regular feedback to support your development and critical reflection skills.

The final task involves you planning two lessons, teaching them, providing feedback from pupils and writing a self-reflected, detailed evaluation of your own lesson. This evidence will be reviewed and assessed by your tutor.

Follow-up activities and support

 

TUTOR SUPPORT

At the start of the programme you will be appointed a personal pathway tutor who is a subject specialist in your chosen subject. Your personal pathway tutor will mentor and work with you to create an agreed learning plan, and to coach your subject knowledge and skill development.

As an experienced teacher they will guide you and support you, and they will be able to provide you with hints and tips to try in the classroom.

DELIVERY

Our courses are delivered 100% online so that you can fit learning around your existing school and personal commitments. Each programme is made up of approximately 15 on-demand sessions, designed by teachers for teachers, to provide you with relevant and engaging content and lesson ideas.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

All our SKEfT courses follow a similar structure and are estimated to take 42 weeks to complete on a
part-time basis. However, individual circumstances inevitably change throughout the year, and in order to be as flexible as possible, participating teachers have up to 1 year to complete the course. 

The standard course structure consists of 15 online on-demand sessions, made up of a number of
compulsory core sessions as well as optional sessions which can be chosen to suit the needs of the individual teacher.
