Learning outcomes for participants/users and, where relevant, pupils or students

Young children are natural scientists and we need to foster their sense of curiosity by providing them with interesting and exciting science lessons that engage and stimulate a sense of wonder. This course aims to provide ideas and activities that can be used in an early years setting to develop the ‘Understanding of the World’ area of the foundation stage curriculum. It will be a hands on session with plenty of practical advice for delivering a rich early years provision.

As a result of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by science in the Early Years Foundation Stage;
  • Be able to plan stimulating and exciting activities to cover the science element of early year’s provision; and
  • Know how to gather manageable evidence for the assessment of EYFS children.
