|Learning outcomes for participants/users and, where relevant, pupils or students||
This workshop will help teachers to optimise student interest, motivation and achievement in Latin. As Latin is becoming more and more popular with schools, our course supports experienced teachers who are looking for fresh ideas as well as those who are new to Latin teaching and would like to introduce Classics to their school curriculum.
This 90-minute workshop will provide teachers with a wealth of active learning ideas and strategies which can be easily implemented and added to any curriculum.
This is an active session in which teachers will
- find out more about the importance of active learning
- try out different active learning resources
- explore how to make existing curricula more active
We can run this workshop for individual schools or you can team up with partner schools.
|Evidence underpinning this approach||
Arguably, students who are motivated are most likely to reach their full potential inside and outside school. Active learning is a proven teaching strategy that increases student motivation and self-determination. A curriculum that makes use of active learning will acknowledge that students are more than passive listeners and will actively involve them in every step of the learning process. In today's education climate there is a great focus on results and while active learning will help students to achieve academically, it also equips them with metacognitive awareness and skills along the way. Learning then becomes a truly process-orientated experience giving students ownership of their learning and the opportunity to take it to the next level. Students will think about what they do in class and why they do it and which skills they can utilise to tackle problems.
|How users/participants can evaluate success||
The success of this workshop can be measured by increased levels of student enjoyment in lessons, parent responses and uptake at GCSE-Level.
