To provide participants with the time and opportunity to explore and reflect upon:

  • Approaches for asking questions which are effective in engaging students in higher level thinking.
  • The use and design of multiple representations activities which lead to students making connections between different areas of algebra and across mathematics.
  • The effective uses of digital technologies within the teaching of algebra.
  • Implementing and embedding strategies from these three areas within their teaching.

Follow-up activities and support

The course requires active participation at two separate study residentials and in a short series of online sessions between these. Participants will also be expected to complete an interim task and will receive a range of teaching and learning resources and have access to email support throughout the course

Algebra at KS4 is designed for teachers who wish to develop both their subject knowledge and classroom practice in algebra at secondary school level. You may be:

  • teaching algebra at KS4 for the first time
  • wanting to rethink and refresh how you teach algebra at KS4
  • wanting to develop your own subject knowledge up to GCSE grade A*

 

If you are an experienced teacher of GCSE Mathematics you will gain fresh mathematical insights and pedagogic approaches for algebra up to grade A*.
