|Description||This presentation and resource is a must for all primary and secondary food teachers, technicians and support staff. It sets the background to the national changes leading to food becoming compulsory throughout primary and secondary for the first in NC2014. Many teachers were prepared for compulsory food teaching in 2011 through the Licence to Cook programme, and whilst this was suspended during the government’s review, food will now be statutory for all pupils until the end of KS3 from next September. The government worked closely with the D&T Association to develop the new programme of study.|
|Learning outcomes for participants/users and, where relevant, pupils or students||The presentation will explain the link with the school curriculum and government’s School Food Plan, and the heightened role that food teaching has in leading on the teaching of healthy eating and better food choices. And why D&T was chosen as the best place for teaching food.
During the presentation there will be time to explore the precise nature of the new requirements – both the aims and programme of study at KS1, 2, 3 setting straight what has changed and what is prioritised. It will also clarify the relationship between the new ‘cooking and nutrition’ section and designing and making with food ingredients. Practical advice with examples of good practice, how to review your food scheme of work and define progression,, and where to find useful teaching resources to draw upon.
With very few training courses being provide specifically for food teachers, this will be an excellent opportunity to hear the latest developments, and discuss with colleagues new opportunities and network.
These presentations are given by the Associations food consultants, all very experienced food teachers, advisers, inspectors, Licence to Cook Lead Practitioners, Food in Schools trainers
