Stated learning outcomes for this course

This course presents a number of engaging team and pair work CLIPs (Cooperative Learning Interaction Patterns) which facilitate understanding, retention of rules and facts and correct application of rote procedures, including SPaG for primary schools.

The EEF toolkit clocks estimated costs for getting collaborative approaches into a class of 25 pupils at about £500 or £20 per pupil per year. this course is documented as doing the same for schools with about 200 pupils on roll, at a one-off charge of about £4.5 per pupil.

By the end of the full 6 hour course participating teachers will be able to support their teaching with a number of engaging group and pair work interaction patterns to:

  • activate schemata in relation to topics and tasks
  • use CL to discover solutions
  • monitor learning and thinking processes to provide relevant on-the-fly teacher response
  • Facilitate:
  1. effective task work in pairs and teams
  2. creative writing, skim, scan and intensive reading, in English and foreign languages
  3. Higher Level Thinking Skills; enhancement and rote learning integration
  4. homework checking
  5. cross-class knowledge sharing
  6. retention of  rules and facts
  7. memorising and training of correct application of rote procedures e.g. mathematical formula, how to use a foreign language dictionary or steps in conducting scientific experiments.
