Description 22nd June 2015 - Central London. This course will help raise the grades of your pupils by giving the skills needed to engage students into their learning through a more creative and advanced use of their sketchbooks. A key area of GCSE and A-Level Art and Design is the ability to record and explore techniques, materials and ideas in creative and imaginative journals. This course will focus specifically at creating unique and wonderful sketchbooks, crammed full of exploration evidence that will in turn gain students more marks in the assessment objectives whilst giving lots of ideas to develop student’s ability to experiment with confidence.

The course will be divided into three sections:


  • Handmade journals
    Step by step practical guide to making some simple and budget friendly sketchbooks.These add variety to moderation and demonstrate a range of skills before the pages are even filled! Including, ‘Made using Scrap’, ‘Folded and Fanned’, and even a ‘3D book/box’.

  • Project Ideas and raising the grade
    Looking at a project structure, time constraints, new structures and changes to the syllabus, boys use of sketchbooks, strategic spending, support materials and helping learners become more resilient and comfortable with their ‘mistakes’.

  • Practical sketchbook techniques – sample exploration of some quick and easy mixed media, print and textile methods, that demonstrate clear progression of ideas and help enhance skills in sketchbook use and student motivation.


The day will also provide you with a wealth of resources and practical examples to take back to the classroom.
