Description The Fit for Change programme is delivered across 4 twilight sessions to support your leadership of change in your school. Between each event you have access to development activities to provoke further thinking and reflection. Each stage has been designed to develop your thinking; share your learning and gives you new tools to use immediately. This structure gives you new stimuli to engage with, practise and review.

Through 4 face to face learning events, online coaching, bitesize learning and reflection opportunities participants on the programme will leave with practical tools to:
•    Build commitment and engagement of their team
•    Analyse and investigate potential solutions
•    Understand why people behave how they do and have more strategies for managing them
•    Deal with ‘blockers’ by leading difficult conversations
•    Focus on practical actions, generating improved outcomes for your students
•    Demonstrate the impact of the change project.


Evidence underpinning this approach

The programmes underpinning model is developed from the work of Kolb (1984) Experiential Learning Cycle.  Each element of the programme features key research and theoretical models relating to that stage of the change project e.g., Kubler-Ross, Kotter.

How users/participants can evaluate success

A model for measuring the impact of the change project is introduced in the second twilight session.  Evaluating and reviewing the impact of learners’ development in their change project is an inherent part of the programme.

In addition the Fit for Change programme learning events and overall programme is evaluations through:  

  • Participant ‘on the day’ evaluation of the events
  • A self-evaluation tool – knowledge of how to deal with change and confidence in leading change is sought prior to training and post training
  • Participants are given the opportunity to reflect on their learning and prepare for the next stage, identifying further training required
  • A sample of participants are followed up one term after completing the programme to assess the impact of the programme 
Follow-up activities and support

Where participants are from the same school / academy they are expected to collaborate with each other on the change project.  Generally participants work on their change projects individually and after the programme some participants work on school based enquiry projects.

Extra support is available from the facilitators if necessary, however we encourage participants to collaborate and support each other before seeking external support.


There are four face to face learning events 3.45pm – 6.00pm they are titled:

  1. Clarity & Vision
  2. Analysis, Planning & Impact
  3. Situations & People
  4. Impact & Evaluation

In between each event participants have access to development activities, via Online Coaching and Bitesize Learning to provoke further thinking and reflection.
