|Categories||Primary, Secondary, Leadership and Management, Management, Headteacher, In school, Governor, Governance|
|Learning outcomes for participants/users and, where relevant, pupils or students||
The session consists of a facilitated self-review process worked through with the governing body. The consultant will lead the governing body through the eight elements of effective governance, guiding the governing body as it self-diagnoses its own strengths and areas for development. The session also includes a focus on the Ofsted framework and the criteria Ofsted use when they are making judgements about governance.
There is also the option for governors to complete an individual self-review, which the consultant can use to further focus the facilitated aspect of the review.
|Evidence underpinning this approach||
The health check draws on the NGA's expertise in governance policy and practice. It is delivered by experienced consultants with strong track-records in governance and education.
|How users/participants can evaluate success||
Following the session, the governing body will have a clear perspective on its own strengths and weaknesses, allowing it to move forward and maximise its positive contribution to school improvement.
|Follow-up activities and support||
The NGA offers a range of support, advice, and training services which can be used to follow-up or complement the health check.
This is a three hour session delivered to the whole governing body at a time and place to suit. Prior to the session, the consultant will liaise with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher by phone to clarify the focus of the session and to ensure that it addresses any particular areas of concern.
