The session is designed to cover Ofsted's expectations of governance, the criteria inspectors use to make judgements about the governing body, the inspection process itself as it impacts on governors, questions governors may be asked, and the feedback and reporting process. 

Evidence underpinning this approach

The content of the session is informed by the latest Ofsted guidance as well as the NGA's expertise in governance practice and policy. 

How users/participants can evaluate success

The session is designed to prepare the governing body for the school's next Ofsted inspection and allow them achieve the best possible outcome in this.

Follow-up activities and support

The NGA consultancy team offers a wide range of training and review services which could be used to complement this session according to the specific needs of a governing body. 


The consultant would liaise with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher prior to the session to ensure that the particular needs of the governing body were met. 

The course would be delivered in school as a two hour training session to the whole governing body, at a time and date to suit
