This four day programme spread over nine months is accredited via the production of an assessed portfolio of evidence of coaching. It explores the principles, concepts and theories underpinning effective coaching and mentoring, provides 360 degree feedback on leadership and coaching styles, enables candidates to practice coaching and mentoring skills and receive 1:1 feedback. The programme also examines in a practical way different applications to lead and support others.

Topics covered include:

  • understanding how management coaching and mentoring can benefit individuals and the organisation
  • reviewing personal ability as a management coach or mentor
  • undertaking management coaching and mentoring in the workplace

Who is this for:

The programme will be of benefit middle managers with a need to coach/mentor others of a similar (or one lower) level with some influence on budget/strategy decisions.

There are no formal entry requirements but candidates will normally be practicing managers. Exceptional learners, who have no formal qualification in management, but who have several years’ experience and have completed some formal training in the role, may also participate.

How is it delivered:

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring in Management is made up of three mandatory units which enable candidates to understand, develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills in workplace coaching and mentoring.

In the first mandatory unit candidates explore the characteristics of effective coaches and mentors, going on to present a business case for using coaching or mentoring in their organisation. In the second unit candidates review their own ability as a management coach or mentor, exploring their ethical and moral views as well as communication skills. During the final mandatory unit candidates plan and deliver a short coaching or mentoring programme in line with their organisational, divisional or team goals.

The programme is delivered as:

  • 4 face to face workshops
  • Online module
  • Online discussion forum
  • Tutorial support

Each workshop will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Lunch will be provided on each day and refreshments made available on arrival and during mid-morning and afternoon breaks.
