Description The development of academic language and literacy impacts on learning and attainment in all subjects. Secondary students need explicit teaching to develop more specialized language and literacy skills and subject teachers need to understand the specific features of literacy in their subject and develop a repertoire of strategies for making them explicit to students. Our training: develops subject leaders’ literacy pedagogy and equips literacy leaders with strategic tools for audit, evaluation, monitoring and dissemination supports an action research project to develop strategies across two terms Over three full days of training, your school will build an excellent basis for whole school improvement, including narrowing attainment gaps. Each programme works with a cluster of schools, allowing you to share expertise and build great working relationships. The training costs £650 per person and we require at least four subject leaders (including the literacy lead) from each school to attend. We also invite your head or another SLT member to attend the first session free of charge to help support the project in school. Each participant taking part will benefit from: Three full days of CPD input, delivered by a National Literacy Trust associate trainer An evaluation framework to measure impact Supporting programme materials A year’s subscription to the National Literacy Trust Network, worth £100 (schools that are already members of our network receive £100 reduction per school) Opportunity to submit case studies and gain access to the Working with the National Literacy Trust logo

There will be regular opportunities to develop leadership and management skills such as developing strategy, tracking student achievement and improving colleagues’ continuing professional development.

Three day cluster-based training. Days spread across one and a half to two terms to allow time for action research. Dates negotiable.Trainers are National Literacy Trust approved consultants, all fully trained in the course materials.

  • A senior leader (e.g. head or deputy) receives an additional FREE place at the first session provided at least two paying members of staff attend.
