Connect new numeracy curriculum objectives with science and foundation subjects.
Plan cross-curricular lessons while retaining the substance and rigour of the subjects being taught.
Assess the application of numeracy skills.
Find simple solutions to evidencing pupil application of numeracy skills.

Evidence underpinning this approach

The new curriculum poses the challenge of embedding key skills across curriculum areas to ensure that children understand and make these links in reading, writing and numeracy.

In order to master and apply numeracy skills children need to be taught the explicit links and purpose behind the need for numerical skills. The Assetteach approach is to incorporate numeracy objectives into cross-curricular lessons in a meaningful way, while retaining the rigour and substance of each of the subjects. Naturally there are links - use of directional language in Geography and Computing is a prime example but many teachers are unconfident or unsure how to make these links or how to evidence them. This requires holistic training for teachers to understand how to plan, teach, assess and evidence numeracy skills taught in cross-curricular lessons.

How users/participants can evaluate success

Participants will be able to:

Plan and teach numeracy skills in cross-curricular lessons.

Evidence numeracy in cross-curricular lessons.

Pupils apply numeracy skills in context.

Develop stronger cross-curricular links between subjects.
