Description In the new curriculum we see an increased emphasis on phonics and spelling at KS2. This course will support you in developing a thorough understanding of how phonics informs our continued teaching of spelling at KS2 as well as helping you to get to grips with the new age-related expectations in Years 3-4 and 5-6. The course is aimed at Key Stage 2 teachers, subject leaders and SENCOs who require training in synthetic phonics and progression of age-related spelling expectations. The session can also be useful for colleagues from lower Key Stage 3 who require synthetic phonics training as well as an update on Key Stage 2 age-related spelling expectations and related strategies. The key principles and strategies from 'Letters and Sounds' have been adopted in many Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 settings. During the day you will have the opportunity to explore phonic subject knowledge and consider ways in which you can incorporate this into the teaching of spelling in Key Stage 2. The training also includes an exploration of the key principles and relevant guidance from 'Support for Spelling'.
