Description This whole day training will support class teachers (and subject leaders who are responsible for coaching staff) to plan exciting and engaging units of work based on the new curriculum. The day will focus on the planning of units based on the teaching sequence for writing. Teachers will be supported to incorporate the revised age related expectations, and will be shown how these can be personalised to meet the needs of different cohorts. We will explore resources which can be used to ensure accurate pitch and progression and identify a range of inspiring texts which will both spark enthusiasm for writing and provide appropriate writing models. Delegates will follow the planning process for a fiction and non-fiction unit, which should equip them with the necessary skills to plan other units. During the day we will look at ways of ensuring that the skills of spelling, grammar, vocabulary development and punctuation are taught, where possible, in a way that is embedded in the core texts. Subject leaders will be able to use the generic approaches modelled throughout the day to support other year groups to plan exciting and engaging units of work.
