Description The Arts touch all aspects of our lives. They can contribute to raising children’s academic attainment and achievement, support the development of skills, raise confidence and self-esteem, impact on health and wellbeing and be truly life enhancing. Leeds is an ‘arts rich city’ and schools have a key role to play to ensure that every child has the opportunity to experience and benefit from the wonderful range of arts and cultural learning opportunities available to them. Delivered during the autumn and spring terms of 2015/6, the 2 full day sessions will provide a mix of creative workshops, interactive group activities, inspiring presentations and resources.
Duration 2 days (2nd october 2015 and 4th March 2016

This training course aims to:
✓ help raise standards in arts delivery within the new curriculum and promote innovative
cross-curricular approaches.
✓ demonstrate how the arts contribute positively to pupils’ attitudes to learning and
engagement in school.
✓ provide practical ideas and workshop activities to help with the planning and implementation
of arts projects in and across the curriculum.
✓ support coordinators who are interested in applying for the new Artsmark and/or introducing
Arts Award for pupils.

Arts for inspiration and engagement:
Day 1 will help teachers to fully understand their role as arts coordinators and introduce them to the
arts and cultural offer in Leeds. Participants will be supported to create a meaningful Arts Policy
which will help them to establish a strategic plan for the arts in line with Ofsted and school
improvement priorities. Drew Rowlands from CAPE UK will introduce the new Artsmark as a
framework for celebrating achievement in the arts and supporting the development of a broad and
balanced creative curriculum.

Arts in and across the curriculum

Day 2 is a practical dayexploring how the arts can supportcross curricular teaching and learning.  there will be presenations and workshops delivered by lead practitionersin Dance, Art, D&T, Music and Film.
