Description Punk Learning – Reclaiming the Classroom for the Learners with Tait Coles. How great teaching and learning happens when the learners take control. This is not a course about making your lessons ‘outstanding’. Not because Punk Learning doesn’t mean great lessons, but because it doesn’t care about labels. What it cares about is creating authentic learning experiences that put young people in charge of their learning and, ultimately, their lives. Punk Learning means what goes on in your classroom is real, relevant, active and challenging – to you as well as to your students. If you’re fed up with lessons that pander to ‘the Man’ - whether that’s the inspectors, the senior management or the latest fad – then put some punk in your pedagogy.

Evidence underpinning this approach

Tait Coles is a man who has had enough. A teacher and Vice Principal for Learning and Innovation at a school in Bradford, he sees it’s time to fight back after two decades of ‘deliverology’. With experience as Assistant Head and Head of Science, he is also an SLE, an accredited facilitator. Tait is the creator of Punk Learning; a manifesto that challenges the orthodoxy and complacency of teaching and allows students to be central to a critical educational culture where they learn how to become individuals and social agents rather than merely disengaged spectators who have their ‘part to play’ in the Neoliberal ideology of modern schooling.
