Students of Russian at post-GCSE level are often highly motivated students and able linguists, but how do we ensure that they make a smooth transition from GCSE to the demands of A Level, IB Dploma or Pre-U studies? What are the best ways of developing their comprehension, speaking and writing skills while also developing a love for Russian culture and literature? How can we keep our teaching interesting and inspiring in a subject which is often percieved as difficult and where ready-made resources are scarce?
This course is aimed at all teachers of Russian at post-GCSE level and will provide you with a wealth of ideas for reinvigorating your Sixth Form language lessons. We will start by looking at how to attract students to carry on with their Russian studies and which new skills need to be taught explicitly at the beginning of Year 12. We will then explore the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing and look at specific ways of developing these skills both in and outside the classroom in preparation for public examinations.
