Description The new SEND code of practice outlines an expectation that all ‘early years practitioners, class and subject teachers/lecturers and teaching assistants working directly with the child or young person on a regular basis’ have an enhanced understanding of how to ‘adapt teaching and learning to meet a particular type of SEN’ (SEND code of practice 0-25, 2014: 4.32) This half day course for SENCOs and school leaders will support you on this journey by focusing on the broad area of need known as social, emotional and mental health. During the session we will explore practical activities, enhanced approaches, resources and ideas for tweaking teaching in order to improve the learning experience for children and young people who have needs in one or more of these areas. In addition, delegates will take away the materials shared during the day, including the presentation, to adapt and use for their own school CPD programme.
