Description The TAM course is designed to give teachers the skills and confidence to teach A level Mathematics effectively, focusing on subject knowledge and pedagogy. There are now two versions of the TAM course: 1. The full, Masters-level accredited, TAM course: For academic year 2014/15 this course is fully funded by the DfE for teachers in state-funded schools and colleges. The course has previously been offered through Durham University, The Institute of Education (London), Manchester Metropolitan University, Plymouth University, Leeds University and Warwick University, Cambridge University and King's College London. 2. The non-Masters accredited TAM course, previously offered through centers in London and the North West.

A year-long course of professional development for teachers wishing to enhance their subject knowledge so that they can teach A level Mathematics with confidence.

  • Focus on A level Mathematics pedagogy.
  • Study the content of five A level modules, from a teaching and learning perspective, with support using an on-line classroom.
  • Participants have access to an extensive website of teaching and learning materials, continuing for two years after course completion.
  • Participants will be able to extend their studies in one of the following fields; Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Mathematics.

1. The full, Masters-level accredited, TAM course:

  • This course is for teachers in state-funded schools and colleges in England who will be teaching A level Core Mathematics in 2014-15.
  • £1200 DfE bursary available on course completion for the Masters level. Please visit our website for more information.
  • Eight study days, spread across the year, including some Saturdays.

  • Participants receive two school/college visits from the course tutors.

  • During the course, teachers are asked to compile a portfolio of module assignments and personal reflections on the course study days.

  • Those wishing to receive a Postgraduate Certificate (one third of a Masters degree) need to submit additional work in the form of essays.

  • Textbooks covering A level Mathematics

  • Free attendance at additional CPD events for Statistics, Mechanics and Decision Mathematics.

2. The non-Masters accredited TAM course:

  • All teachers are eligible for this course.
  • The course fees are £600.
  • Six study days (including two Saturdays) spread across the year.
  • Forty 75-minute optional online lessons in a virtual classroom.
  • Three years’ access to the MEI online resources including additional extensive course materials.
  • Textbooks covering A level Mathematics.
  • Free attendance at additional CPD events for Statistics, Mechanics and Decision Mathematics.
