Description TFM is an extended course for teachers of A level Maths. It covers the content in the Further Pure Mathematics modules of the four English examination specifications from a teaching and learning perspective.

To enable teachers to teach further mathematics with confidence by consdering

  • the mathematical content covered in the Further Mathematics specifications
  • extension and exrichment for these topics
  • effective pedagogy for teaching mathematics at this level
  • useful  resources for teaching, including ICT

TFM can be studied in two ways:

  • as an MEI certificated professional development course
  • as part of a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Pre-University Mathematics (60 CAT points at Master level) through the University of Plymouth International Masters Programme.

The course consists of two units called Teaching Further Mathematics 1 (TFM 1) and Teaching Further Mathematics 2 (TFM 2) covering content from  A level Further Pure Mathematics modules (FP1, FP2, FP3 and FP4), from a teaching and learning perspective.

Teachers enrolled on the course will receive

  • textbooks covering the course content
  • two years’ access to the Integral online resources, which includes the student and teacher resources for the Further Pure Mathematics modules for all specifications, material written specifically for the course and accessible only to course participants, and forums for support
  • email support from the unit tutors
  • the opportunity to attend four study days
  • the opportunity to take part in live online tutorials
  • the opportunity to take one A2 applied maths module (M2, S2 or D2) as an online course.
