Description | Research indicates that design and technology is one of primary-aged children’s favourite subjects. So how can we use the motivational effect of the subject to boost children’s attainment in other subjects? This full day, cross-curricular course for primary headteachers, D&T subject leaders and classroom teachers will provide strategies for using D&T to help raise standards in English, maths and science in KS1 and KS2. The day with comprise interactive sessions: English – how D&T can provide a motivating context for spoken language and teaching non-fiction writing Mathematics – how D&T can provide opportunities for children to apply their understanding of measures, shape and space, ratio and data handling Science – how science understanding can be applied in D&T and how D&T can set exciting contexts for science investigations Bringing it all together – long and medium-term planning The course will illustrate how to plan for effective cross-curricular teaching using the D&T Association’s popular scheme of work Projects on a Page and delegates will carry out a number of practical activities to explore how D&T can enhance children’s learning in English, maths and science. Learning outcomes: By the end of the course, delegates will have: Developed strategies for harnessing the motivation effect of D&T in English, maths and science Considered how effective cross-curricular learning can be built into their own long and medium-term planning |
