|Description||This masterclass, led by synaesthesia-inspired expert practitioners BitterSuite, will encourage participants to challenge the existing definitions and models of community music projects by exploring and playing with multi-sensory and synesthetic ways of running workshops.|

Working as collaborators we will test out, critique and push the creative ideas from BitterSuite’s multi-sensory community work in music. We will get stuck into concepts like:
Taste the music
Exploring how we can demonstrate or think about pitches as tastes – what pitch is a lemon – high / middle / low? Running experiments that are inspired by Charles Spence demonstrating how certain instruments / tonalities can effect the way you taste.
Colour of music
Can you associate shades of colour with musical tonality. What does red sound like and why?
Texture of music
If we pair like with like experiences – physical textures with musical textures – can we enhance the experience + understanding of the music ? For instance how can we enact the texture of staccato / legato? And can we approach more complex musical texture – polyphony / cacophony / monophony etc. by explaining it in physical textures.
This workshop will be a collaborative session where as a group, we play with these concepts and discover new ideas and ways of working. Attendees are invited and encouraged to bring along their own musical instruments which may be used in creative break-out sessions.
